Based in San Diego, Trupo Treats is the brainchild company of vegan brothers Brian and Charlie Trupo.
How it all began
You know how it goes…you’re out shopping and suddenly have an overwhelming desire for a bar of milk chocolate. Well, this is what happened to Brian Trupo. And the only problem was, there were no vegan milk chocolate bars available in the general shops around him. The only thing he could find were dark chocolate bars which really weren’t going to hit the mark for him.
Following this situation, he and his brother thought about all the other chocolate bars from their childhood (and beyond) that weren’t available in vegan form and wanted to do something about it.
BUT more than that, they wanted to do it in a way that was forward-thinking, better for our health as well as the environment. And in the creation of Trupo Treats, the team has committed to using their influence as a way of supporting charities as well as the communities around them.
Community projects
“One of our biggest core values is being kind to animals.”
And this notion absolutely shines through in the animal sanctuary partnerships they have created. And these aren’t just collaborative working partnerships; on the contrary, Trupo Treats has donated an impressive $10,000 to various animal sanctuaries since it’s commencement in July 2020. Settings in which a donation really makes a difference such as Rooster Haus Rescue in Skokomish, Washington, Safe Haven Farm Sanctuary in Poughquag, New York and Stray Dog Support in Kewaskum, Wisconsin.
At present, the Trupo Treats is collating its partnership list for 2022 so if you know of somewhere that needs support or have an idea of a favourite sanctuary you’d like to see working with Trupo Treats, please contact the team.
The chocolate…
We can’t really discuss the work of Trupo Treats without talking more about the delicious chocolate they produce. For those with an environmental focus, you’ll be pleased to hear that each of the nostalgic chocolate bars are made with organic, vegan and fairly traded ingredients. They’re also packed in eco-friendly and compostable wrappers to lessen any climatic impact.
The chocolate is made with plant mylk, ensuring a super creamy texture. And Brian let us into a little secret that they’re hoping to have a mylk chocolate wafer bar available to customers by the end of the year. We can’t wait to try it.
Our favourite product of theirs right now? It has to be the Fireside Vegan S’mores Kit which comes with four Creamy Mylk Chocolate Bars, one large bag of marshmallows and a box of Kinnikinnick Vegan Graham Crackers, all packed in a box and wrapped in bonfire themed tissue paper. If anything is going to kick up good childhood memories for us, it has to be cooking marshmallows around a fire.
Take a look for yourself and let us know what you think.
