UK supermarkets reveal their festive vegan Christmas range

Latest News

Waitrose, Tesco and Aldi have all unveiled their new Christmas range for vegans.

Last week, UK supermarket chain Waitrose revealed its new vegan food offerings for Christmas. The menu includes Festive Filo Swirls — Moroccan-inspired spiced vegetables with apricots and raisins all encased in a filo pastry — and Roasted Roots with Carrot & Parsnip Falafel Wrap — a spinach tortilla wrap filled with sweet potato, carrot and parsnip falafels, cannellini bean and parsnip hummus, braised red cabbage, relish and spinach.

Since then, Tesco, the UK’s biggest supermarket, has unveiled its vegan Christmas offerings by releasing the first of its kind, whole vegan turkey crown and other festive goods as a part of its Wicked Kitchen and Plant Chef ranges. The chain will also be releasing a series of starters and sides: the Plant Chef Pigless Blankets and Onion Stuffing Balls, Plant Chef No Mozzarella Sticks, Wicked Kitchen No-Chicken Drumettes and Wicked Kitchen No-Prawn Firecracker Dippers.

While the mains not only include the vegan crown, which is made from soy and wheat protein and topped with vegan coconut melt and stage onion stuffing crumb, but also the Wicked Kitchen Wellington and the Tesco Plant Chef Meat-Free Festive Vegan Roast. And Tesco will be offering the Wicked Kitchen Ginger Chai Cake and Plant Chef mince pies as well.

Derek Sarno, head of Plant-Based Innovation at Tesco, told The Vegan Review: “For all you rock stars who are eating less meat or are full-on vegan, we are offering a complete plant-based holiday experience at Tesco this Christmas.

“We’ve got everything from amazing new centrepieces that will totally wow the family, through to plant-based versions of favourite trimmings including pigless blankets. And don’t forget the beautiful selection of desserts and sweet treats — no one has to miss out this Christmas.”

While Aldi has not sent an official release for its upcoming range, it has been confirmed the store will be releasing a variety of plant-based starters, mains, sides and desserts. This also includes vegan turkey made from soya and filled with cranberry, red pepper, apricot and pumpkin seed stuffing and coated in a barbecue glaze.
