More than just a snappy hashtag, Vegan AF is one the New Jersey’s best vegan restaurants. It’s also a pandemic success story.
Few potential business owners took a look at the Covid-19 outbreak and thought it provided the perfect opportunity for opening a new venture. But then again, Vegan AF had a different motivation right from the start. Looking to offer good food, a showcase for local artists and a community hub, a little thing like a global pandemic wasn’t going to stand in the way.
Found on Central Avenue, Vegan AF is a combination beautiful eatery, striking art gallery and hangout haven for locals. Industrial in style and pared back, the message of veganism isn’t lost in fussy decor or over the top gimmicks. There isn’t a lot of seating, but during these takeout-only days, that isn’t an issue. What is being talked about, however, is the tasty food, the variety of dishes on offer and the unwavering focus on togetherness.

You ever look at a restaurant menu and felt just a little flat? Like there was potential to do so much more in the way of regional dishes, exciting combinations and just downright craveable nosh? You won’t feel like that when you scour the Vegan AF menu. Every dish is either a nod to a classic feel-good recipe or just designed to fill your stomach and give your soul a little glow at the same time. No more just ordering the side salad.
If you’re in New Jersey and looking for vegan foodie fulfilment, the following come highly recommended:
Pancakes: Who doesn’t love pancakes? Plain, loaded with berries, topped with bananas, with facon on the side. You choose and it will be done at Vegan AF. It’s like they know that pancakes are life or something.
Mac & Cheese Burger: You get a choice of four vegan patties and that’s just the start of your customisation. Pick a green, your favourite sauces and extra toppings too, if you have room for them.
Brunch: A huge plate stacked high with all your brunch favourites including tofu scramble and sausages. Just pick a drink to have alongside and hope your waistband can stretch.
Chili Soup: Hot, hearty and with pickles or not. When you absolutely need a good hunk of nostalgia and comfort but none of the meat, the Chili Soup is guaranteed satisfaction.
As restrictions are lifted and restaurants are able to open for eating-in again, Vegan AF will no doubt be flooded with keen and curious foodies alike. And if there aren’t t-shirts being sold soon, then that’s a missed opportunity because we wear our hearts on our sleeves and our hearts are Vegan AF.
