In January of this year, it was announced that San Francisco was to host the first-ever Vegan Women Summit (VWS). The next month, the first-ever summit took place and then VWS was launched in a series of virtual gatherings after a sell-out event. And now, on the 23rd of this month, the VWS will be hosting their ninth affair, but this time, it will not only be about veganism, but the event will also intersect race and veganism.
According to their website, the Vegan Women Summit was created to ‘inspire, educate and empower future and rising female leaders on how to bring compassion to their career and industry’. Leading women ranging from CEOs, venture capitalists and even non-profit organisations, come together to ‘inspire the next generation of vegan women leaders’.
The recent death of George Floyd has led to a series of Black Lives Matter protests globally from America to Australia. And the VWS will be using their platform to support the black and vegan community.
Jennifer Stojkovic, the founder of VWS, told VegOut, “We hope this event provides a learning opportunity for our attendees to better understand how supporting the Black community intersects with supporting the vegan community, why this work is important, and how they can become a better ally.”
Attendees include influencer Tabitha Brown, who went viral for posting a vegan ‘bacon’ recipe on TikTok, Miyoko Schinner, Jasmine Leyva and Aisha ‘Pinky’ Cole.
